BCCOA Volunteer of the Year
Bay County Council on Aging would like to congratulate our volunteer of the year...
MRS. DOROTHY ALLEN

Mrs. Allen is a retired teacher who has been volunteering with the Bay County Council on Aging for over 7 years. She first started with our Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Then she joined the line dancer group and volunteered to entertain by dancing at the different senior centers in Bay county. She also belongs to the PAWS Ministry and along with her little dog, Sandy, has been visiting the BCCOA Respite Center every month for over 7 years. It was five years ago that she volunteered to read stories to our clients. She comes twice a month and reads a story to the Developmental Services clients, and then reads to the Alzheimers center clients. Sandy accompanies her on these visits and always does a little dance for these clients. The clients all love Sandy and she visits with each one and lets them hold her and pet her. Mrs. Allen also volunteers at St. Andrews school and helped to coordinate a visit by on of the school groups to visit the Respite Center at Christmas time and perform for our seniors. Mrs. Allen and Sandy also volunteer with Covenant Hospice, nursing homes and also are 11th hour sitters. She also brings Sandy to perform for special occasions and parties at the center. Mrs. Allen volunteers 10 hours each month. By modest accounting, she has given over 500 hours of service for our respite clients since she first began. We all love her and look forward to her visits.
Congratulations Mrs. Allen, you deserve it!
